OFFICIAMUSEUM, designed by the Second University of Naples, is a project for a museum system involving companies working in sectors as diverse as wood inlay, coral and cameos, ceramics, porcelain, and so on, all products of excellence of the Campania region in Southern Italy. The system is conceived as enhancing the growth of those companies rooted in a solid handicraft tradition who view design culture as a means of increasing their competitive edge. OFFICIAMUSEUM is made up of a virtual network of historical and company museums located in different parts of the region and a 'physical' museum to be built in Pompei, the strategic hub of cultural tourism in Campania. Originally published in Italian in 2005, this is the first in the series COMPANY MUSEUMS, edited by Claudio Gambardella and published by Alinea. What is a company museum today? What are its distinguishing features compared with other types of museums? What makes it different from a shop? To what extent should company history affect its inner structure? What role do digital and multimedia technologies play in the setting up of a company museum? In an attempt to answer these key questions with reference to the contemporary language of architecture, this book aims to develop a 'company museography' to meet the many and diverse needs of the company, by offering a critical study of existing cases and presenting several scientifically significant projects. A CD-ROM is included Publications include an Italian edition of this book (2005), presented at Milan Triennale (2006); RADICALMENTE NAPOLI. Architettura e design (2005); Mostrare.
